Everyone is cordially invited to an afternoon choral workshop with the St. Anne’s Church Choir and members of Bel Canto, to sing excerpts from Handel’s ‘Messiah’, and then to sing them as part of a special Good Friday Evensong at 6.00pm on Friday 18 April.
The workshop Pianist will be Linda Gray; the Organist is Dorothy Davis, led by Musical Director Claire De la Haye.
During the afternoon Come & Sing workshop you will work on and prepare a selection of famous choruses from Part II of ‘The Messiah’, culminating in the extraordinarily beautiful ‘Worthy is the Lamb’ and the ‘Amens’ from the end of Part III.
To participate fully, singers will need some familiarity the work and/or be reasonably comfortable with sight reading music. Equally, people are welcome to attend the workshop as observers. Please bring your own music (these can be purchased second hand very inexpensively from Amazon or eBay).
Afternoon tea with homemade cakes will be served half way through the workshop to provide an opportunity to chat with fellow singers and give a boost to energy levels!
Timings will be confirmed in early April but are expected to be as follows:
1.00pm Doors Open
1.30pm Workshop Start
3.15pm Afternoon Tea
4.00pm Workshop Continues
5.30pm Workshop Ends
6.00pm Choral Evensong with Messiah Excepts, led by Reverend Graham Duncan, Associate Vicar at St. Anne’s
There is no fee to participate, however any donations to our church music fund are welcome.
How to register: please contact Claire De la Haye at claire.delahaye@hotmail.co.uk, stating your voice part (SATB), to enable us to set up for the expected numbers in each voice part on the day.
Less confident singers may wish to come along to Church Choir rehearsals in the run up to this event, where we will be working section by section through the score and learning the notes.
Rehearsals take place at 6.30pm each Tuesday evening for an hour; entry is via the Vestry Door.
All welcome.
