Don’t get scammed by blackmail emails

Several poeple across the region have received blackmail-type bogus emails, threatening to reveal personal details unless a ransom is paid in Bitcoin.

These emails may originate from Brazil and are not usually addressed to a particular individual and the content is generally non-specific in respect of what information is supposedly held and what will be revealed.

Advice from Safer Neighbourhoods’ Sgt Simmons, is to report these offences online to Action Fraud, which is a very simple process.

Sgt Simmons requests that you forward the email to him together with the Action Fraud incident number. Sgt Simmons will then forward your email to the Derbyshire Constabulary intelligence section.
