Bridge repairs, Calver

Please find details of the proposed road closure for the A625 Froggatt Road, New Bridge, Calver: 16 September to 11 October 2024.

As part of Derbyshire County Council’s work to make it safer for HGVs and other vehicles to use the New Bridge at Calver, a section of the A625 Froggatt Road will be closed from 16/9/24 for four weeks.

We’re going to permanently reduce the A625 Froggatt Road to one lane across the bridge, with new traffic lights to help make it easier and safer for road users.

Due to the narrow entry and departure points of the eighteenth century stone bridge, it’s frequently struck by HGVs, despite a range of improvements to improve visibility and to force large vehicles to swing out to avoid damaging the bridge walls.

Extra warning signs and anti-skid surfacing will also be introduced to reduce vehicle speeds. And repairs to the road surface will also be carried out to minimise the need for any future road closures and inconvenience to local road users.

To prevent ‘rat running’, local roads including Riddings Road at Curbar and Moorlands Road, Froggatt, will be access only for local residents and businesses.

A signed diversion route will be in place using the A623, A625, A621, Owler Bar, B6054, A625 Froggatt Edge and vice versa.
