Message Sent By Kirsty Hunt (Police, PCSO, Derbyshire Dales), following a recent visit to Middleton-by-Wirksworth C-of-E Primary School
Hello all
This visit was all about knowing the difference between a secret and a surprise, and good and bad touches. The children watched the rather engaging video “Pantosaurus” [produced by the NSPCC], following which the Falcons class designed posters about what they learned.
It’s important to share the key message from the video to the wider Derbyshire Dales community, as it specifically applies to all children:
- Surprises have endings, whereas secrets do not.
- If you think you are being asked to keep a secret, rather than a happy surprise, you should tell a trusted adult straight away
- Touch can be good or bad; you should never be asked to keep secrets about touch.
- Pants – Privates are private – Always remember your body belongs to you – NO means NO – Talk about secrets that upset you – Speak up, someone can always help.
- How to tell a trusted adult – drawing, writing a letter, plan/practise what you want to say.
If you need to speak to anyone for support around this then speak to the Police, a trusted adult or the NSPCC – you do not have to be alone – It’s alright to say something.
