During the warmer summer months it’s easy to forget that thieves can quickly target an open window or door, and be in and out of your property before you realise.
Here are some tips to deny the thieves any easy opportunities:
If you’re out in the back garden, close any windows at the front of the house and lock the front door, as you may not hear someone coming through an open window or door at the front.
Keep your valuables safe and hidden, and store keys in a safe place out of sight.
If you leave the house for any reason, make sure all doors and windows are closed and locked properly.
Keep your garden secure and fit a garden gate lock to stop thieves snooping around unseen at the back of your house.
Keep tools and ladders locked away. Make sure your shed is secure.
Simple landscaping like a gravel path or thorny shrubs can also act as a deterrent.
And don’t forget to secure your car in warm weather – don’t leave windows open, doors unlocked, or have valuables on display.
