Each year Chatsworth hosts a meeting of the local Parish, District and County Councillors, County Council highway officers and the Police to evaluate the impact of events at Chatsworth.
Over the years this has led to improved traffic management and parking restrictions within the villages surrounding Chatsworth.
At the 2025 meeting, it was suggested that Chatsworth should send a letter to all Baslow residents and businesses to outline what has been agreed to take place for this year’s Chatsworth Christmas Markets, as well as advice on who to contact depending on the parking issue people may experience.
The Chatsworth Christmas Markets will take place from the Saturday 8 November to Sunday 14 December, with the same parking restrictions as last year, for weekends, will now be in place every day this year; namely, cones on the bend by the Village Shop and signage at the bottom of Eaton Hill, School Lane and Bubnell Lane.
Additionally, there will be cones on the A623 from the 30mph sign to the drive beyond Fischer’s Baslow Hall on their side of the road.
See map, below:
There are other markets locally all of which are having an impact on traffic and parking in the village.
Enforcement of existing on-street parking restrictions (e.g. yellow lines and limited waiting bays) is the responsibility of Derbyshire County Council. They have enforcement officers in the village every weekend of the Chatsworth Christmas Market. These officers also patrol the car parks for Derbyshire Dales District Council.
Obstructions, or dangerous parking, can be reported to the Police on 101 or via their website, Facebook page or X (formerly Twitter).
Officers do attend these reports but the logs are also shared with the County Council to feed into traffic restrictions for events in future years.
Like Chatsworth, we understand that local businesses with their own car parks manage access to their properties so that only their patrons use their car parks, all the authorities (following feedback from residents) request that this is managed so that the impact on the highways is minimised and that cars are taken off the highway before checking to allow free movement on the roads.
