St Anne’s Church Baslow is exploring the feasibility of setting up a repair cafe in Baslow.
The Repair Cafe concept is a tried-and-tested model, which uses the skills existing within a community to repair items that are broken, but fixable.
It brings people together, creates social capital and stops perfectly good things going to landfill. If you like fixing, mending and repairing things then you could help set up Baslow’s first Repair Cafe.
Volunteers offer their skills to fix electrical appliances, mend clothes, do bike repairs, sharpen knives and garden implements, repair furniture and anything else that they have the skills to do.
Happy people, whose items have been fixed or repaired, make a donation to a charity; in this case the chosen charity provides safe and hygienic toilets in developing countries.
As well as happy customers, perfectly good things do not go to landfill. It’s good for local people, good for the environment and good for people in developing countries.
If you can help to fix or mend or repair anything at all we’d love to hear from you.
Repair Cafes will probably run on alternate months, on Saturday mornings from 9.00-12.00. Full insurance is provided.
